Week 51 - weirdlywired

Almost caught up!

I bought 5 of these Chalcedony Druzy free form pendandts, and this is my first necklace with them.  I paired it with faceted Iolite and Labradorite, sterling silver beads and wire.  I decided not to oxidize this since all I have is Black Silver, and this can't be tumbled since it's on leather. 
Normally I'll wear a necklace once before selling it to make sure there are no pokies or other issues, but I didn't have that chance - I hope the owner likes it!

I'll have my journal updated soon to include more pictures, but it won't be until Monday.

Summer, Week 51 - Ellen/rubystar

I like the idea of convertable jewelry and I've been trying to think of ways to create pieces that can be worn more than one way. This necklace features a detachable dangle pendant, so it can be worn as a simple choker style or offer a more dramatic look. There's a teeny, tiny spring ring clasp on top of the pendant that looks very similar to one of the links of this chain, so that you don't see it unless you look very closely.

I have decided that I don't particularly care for wrapping briolettes. Maybe it's an acquired taste??   :-)

Just for fun, I thought I would put up one of the many bookmarks I make with wire and beads. I suppose you could call this a copy cat, although I do try to make them all different.

Clever Copycat Sheila

My copycat is copol amber, rather polymer clay faux copol amber. The focal is sculpted polymer. Other embellishments are dyed coconut, hollow copper and polymer clay beads

So, for this week we had to copycat something; I decided to make something that fit the theme in a couple of ways.  My idea for this pendant came from this cat pin I saw on Amazon:  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000DZ5I2?v=glance.

So I decided to see if I could make something that looked at least a little like it.  I made the frame out of 18 gauge sterling, soldered into  the basic shape, and then wired on carnelian marquise briolettes for the eyes and ears, swarovski light colorado topaz 4mm bicones for the outline, a large faceted tiger's eye brio for the fill in for the body, and 2 hessonite discs for the feet.  I made a blob of silver for the nose, then soldered onto the whiskers, shaped it with the dremel to kind-of resemble a cat's nose, and antiqued the whiskers to give them a little definition and dimension.    And after all that was done, I realized that I hadn't soldered a bail on the frame!  So I took an idea from one of Eni's tutorials, and strung crystals in a loop to hang it by.  It's not an exact likeness, but I like it anyway.  It's a copycat cat!

Another Bonsai Finally! Dianne/Faeriiidust

After several weeks' hiatus, I'm finally back to bonsai!  In Week 42 I played with some beaded leaves, working out an idea for a new mame bonsai ring.  This week, I decided to finally give the idea a try.  The ring ended up being more flat than I had intended, but the general idea was right.  It's a funky little ring, and fun to wear.  I'll have to give it another try and see if I can work out what I really wanted it to look like. 

Week 51...oops, still not finished.

I was asked to donate something to a raffle at the Birth Center that I work for.  I am playing with ideas.  I've tried to get some direction..."What type of piece or pieces would you like?  Is there a theme?  Style?  Color?  Age group?  Any piece I already have that is a particular favorite?"  I get nothing other than..."We love every thing you do!  Make anything!"  My brain doesn't function well this way...there are just too many possibilities.  How do you that are in the jewelry business do this?

This is a work in progress.  Ruby Quartz and pearls.  Not sure yet about the dangles...but I just had to present something to this forum, seeing how far behind I currently am.

Week 51 - Inverted Round Bracelet

I'm brain dead.  I was out of town for most of this week and yesterday I woke up with some virus.  This is all I could muster up for the week.  I used an inverted round weave with 18 gauge sterling silver and 4mm ID.  I added a boring ol' lobster claw clasp.  Ack, hack, sniff...I need to get a new brain so I can come up with something for the last week!  - Nancy

A tribute to Sorcie!

This is for you Girl...  My clever copy cat was to copy, once again, Sorcie's unique and gorgeous free wheeling pendant.  She does so much for all of us, both here in FSOJ, and on CWJ, that I thought it only fitting.

Twisted square wire, with Labradorite and silver beads...  beleive it or not, the colors are even better in real life!

WEEK 51

Well big surprise, I am not on theme but I am on time!  Well, like Remy, I have ventured into the world of lampwork last week and haven't come up for much in the way of food or water since, lol!  So here are three beads that I made and put together as a pendant.  I am quite happy with my progress but it will be a long time coming before there is very much consistency in technique and form, but I can't think of a more fun medium to practice with.  Ellen
