Capricorn

Another catch up post.

Yes, Capricorn is my zodiac sign.  I think I am very typical of my sign too (hardworking, good saver of money, determined ect...).  This piece uses the stone for January - garnet - one of my favourite stones.  I can't get enough of garnet - I could wear it all the time.  It was a quick & fun piece - a little messy with the wire work, but I do like it anyway! 

Scorpio

Well I am not quite on track this week but wanted to show you these pretty earrings I made with Swarovski stars and pearls it was quite tricky to design the silver curved wire so that the star would hang down and not touch anything a sort of free falling star, but still be able to hang a drop off the bottom! Anyway quite appropriate for this time of year I thought.

Hello,

My sign is Cancer, I am a water sign, stones are Ruby and Pearl.

I therfore crafted a pendant of an aqua color, as I love to swim in a hot turquoise sea, with a couple of pearls.

Peridot Ring

This is my second ring.  I followed the tutorial exactly except for adjustments for the prongs and size.  I still want to go a little shorter on the prongs.  I was very happy with how this ring turned out except I had trouble getting the size right.  I found on the first practice ring  I needed to make the ring larger when I first sized it because as I made it the size became smaller and also after I wrapped the shank with the 1/2 round wire.  I will need to work more on the sizing.  This ring came out about 1/2 size smaller than I was trying to make.  This stone is a 12mm x 10mm octagon lab created Peridot.  And the depth of the stone is about 5.5mm which is more suited for this ring than the one I used in my practice ring.

Jusmall - Carnelian

Have fallen way behind with posting pictures.  I have made pieces but not gotten around to photographing them yet (sorry - this is also not one of my best photos either).  This is one of my favourite stones - Carnelian - finished with Sterling silver plain and twisted jump rings inbetween each piece.  At the back I have used a lobster clasp so that the length of the necklace is adjustable.

Not too sure about the ever so slightly 'tho :-).  I'm quite proud of these  'cos I made the loopy bits myself & hammered them. I used a variety of Swarovski crystals

Week 9

Playing with earring designs, since I'm still limping along with a recovering wrist. Decided to try some hook earrings. I quite like them, but long curly hair and hook earrings - well... let's just say I have to wear ponytails or it gets ugly!

I've got myself behind and trying to catch up.  I haven't commented on anyones work either for ages but I look everyday.   Crazy time of year.  You are all so inspiring (especially those of you that manage to post on time week after week lol)

HEavenly!

OK, so my birth sign is scorpio, but I really didn't want to do something on that particular theme...  so sticking with an off shoot of the theme, I came up with this heavenly Angel!  Again, these are cabs I have had for six or seven months, and which I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them...  I saw the multistone setting tutorial with IGWJA, and did a simple two stone setting with labradorite (it'll be up on my site today or tomorrow!).  I then had the courage to do this one!  This style of setting was actually quite difficult, much more than a two stone, or even regular three stone setting...  As you can see, the bottom two jasper cabs as the wings don't use both sides of the wire to head up into the next cab...  I wrapped the left wing first, and set aside the uppermost wires for the head, then wrapped the right cab with the bottom wires of the first, taking it up and around.  I then wrapped the two sets of wires together for the baseof the neck, and then did the head and the halo...  IT was really tough to get the cabs sitting straight and even, but after an adjustment or two, I think it worked pretty well!

Scorpio

Going forward trying to perfect my jeweler saw skills I decided to do a piece with more dimension. Janice's Pagoda piece inspired me in this direction.

I cut the astrological sign out of Copper which I then textured with my chasing hammer. Brass was sweat soldered on the back to add smoothness to the piece. The Sterling Silver sheet is cut to frame the back. Beads sandwiched between the Copper and Silver camouflage the tubing that holds it together.

The bracelet is a brass blank covered with black leather sewn together with copper wire. To finish the medallion is glued in place.
