I am playing catch up, as always. This bracelet is my first chainmaille project ever and I know now why I have waited so long to try it!
I have always loved the look of the chainmaille bracelets but wasn't sure if I had the patience to do it. Since the theme was copper, and I knew my first attempt would not be silver, and since there was a chainmaille project on my list of projects to try, I decided the fates were all aligned and went for it.
The pattern is called Tryzantine and is according to the article, a variation of the Byzantine link pattern. Since I do not know the Byzantine, I do not know what the difference is. This pattern and project are from the October 2004 Bead and Button Magazine. The project is by Anne Mitchell. It uses 16 gauge wire.
I took this thing apart so many times before I got the first three inches done. I think I have it now, but don't think I will try it without the article in front of me. Whew, that's where the "nights" comes from in the theme- Copper Nights. It took me nights to get it done!
I used LOS and then put it in the tumbler with steel shot and got the strangest result. Instead of tumbling the los off the high surfaces, the whole thing polished up a steel gray color! I thought about leaving it but I really wanted a copper bracelet so I spent forever trying to hand polish the gray off so I could see the copper. You will notice that I got very "accepting" of the gray at the end. The copper isn't quite totally recovered, but I have decided it is a "design choice" I can live with.
