Black & White

Expect a volley of posts from me; my camera has been on an extended vacation in Egypt with my brother & he returned last night. Very happy my camera returned safe (and my brother too of course)!  I am trialing out my new-ish light set-up for my camera.

Onto post number 1 - a black & white (monochrome) necklace I made.  Made with Onyx, moonstone & clear quartz, I like it as it is one of the few long necklaces I have that isn't made of cheap plastic beads.

Week 4 - Fun with copper

Went to Lowes and bought bunches of copper. Oh, man, I hated stripping that stuff!!!

Anyway, I've got lots to play with so I'm having fun. This is copper with bali silver and blue glass. These are really long and fun.

week 4 - weirdlywired

Monochrome - great theme.   While Moonstone can look very monochrome, it can also be full of color.

This is a beautiful chunk of Rainbow Moonstone and sterling silver that has been oxidized and tumbled. 
I had to use 24G due to poor drilling thru the stone so to strengthen the shank I wrapped over the wires with 28G.  Pretty basic really, but IRL, there is a ton of color in every direction.

MonoChrome

Two words to describe my life....Melt Down!...And, enough about that.

For the longest time I wanted to do a blue mosaic or two.  I attempted to use the colors in some of my lapis carved stones.  Not true monochrome.  On the much larger piece my lapis leaf fell apart, so, I chose to imitate a leaf form by weaving my silver wire.  Not in the original plan, but I like it.  The smaller mosaic originally had only three silver leaves attached, but seemed lacking.  I added an additional leaf in the lower right, but now it feels off balance.  Oh well.  The stones are a fun mix of sodalite, chalcedony, labradorite, quartz, blue lace agate, iolite, blue pearls, pyrite, and lapis. 

Ruby Royale

Not quite monochrome, but getting close Ruby Zoisite pendant with lampwork, pearls and Bali silver al the colors in this piece are shades of the pendant and I really enjoyed making it!

I can't remember what this stone is...but I thought it was neat.

Week 04 - Remy

I  snapped up a couple of  dichroic cabs recently, that I found Lynette Owen's website,. I just couldn't help it,... they were calling out my name :} .   I wanted to play around with some different ways of wrapping too so these cabs were perfect for providing the  inspiration. 

This cabochon has way more purple and pinks through the blue.  I have discovered that there is no way you can capture the true beauty of dichroic glass unless you took a little movie clip and rotated it back and forth. Like opals, looking at these dichroic cabs from different angles you get flashes of different colours that change the whole look.  Sooh pretty.

The setting is made with mostly sterling silver but with gold filled wire wrapped around the neck of the bail, just for something a bit different. The cabochon is actually freeform shaped (more obvious when it was not wrapped) but I decided to treat it like it was symmetrical in the end.

Week 4- Monochromatic

I'm back to my exploration through my many books and magazines.  So many projects I always wanted to try. 

This was a fun and relatively simple project.  I had so much fun doing the yellows and golds that I did the blues as well.  The project is from Contemporary Bead & Wire Jewelry by Nathalie Mornu & Suzanne Tourtillitt.  The project itself was designed by Syndee Holt.

The yellows are frosted glass, amber chips, yellow jade beads, butterscotch jade chips, sterling silver, seed and bugle beads and whatever misc. beads that seemed to fit in.

The blues are frosted glass, lapis, aquamarine, blue topaz, turquoise chips, seed beads, brass beads and again, whatever I thought fit into the monochromatic color scheme.

Both use memory wire as the base but a 22ga. secondary wire adds interest and variety.  In the yellow, I curled and looped the secondary wire, which for some reason I did not do with the brass wire on the blue bracelet.

I altered the directions for the finishing of the bracelet though.  The directions said to run both wires through a bead. fill the hole with glue and trim off the ends.  I just don't seem to have good luck with glue like that so I made a small loop at the end with the memory wire and then wrapped it with the secondary wire until the memory wire did not show.  I may add some little charms to one of the ends.  The idea has been with me for a few days but I haven't tried it yet, but I will.

jusmall - Viking weave

My first piece of viking weave bracelet, woven around a mandrel and pulled through a drawplate.  Sterling silver finished with Bali silver end cones and toggle clasp.  I also made a necklace to match.

The weave isn't as dense as normal because i made a mistake at the very beginning and ended up with four loops to weave through instead of five - a happy mistake!

I'm now working on a five loop piece, its really addictive, and so easy once you get it started.
